Quadratic Functions

When am I ever going to use this? My name is Mike and I hate math. I just don't get the point of learning something I'm never going to use! I mean come on, when am I ever going to need to solve a quadratic function at any point in my life? Somebody asked my teacher the use of this and he said something about how if you were a kicker and you needed to know how to kick a field goal. Just kick the dang ball! It also doesn't help if your teacher is the worst teacher in the world and tells stupid jokes. In my book at the beginning of each lesson there is a Why learn this section and I love reading them because it is usually like: A diver uses this to determine how long he will be in the air, and I'm like who gives a crap? NOBODY! So math teachers, or anybody who reads this, When am I ever going to use this?
